REPORT: BABIES SHOULD SLEEP WITH MOM & DAD FOR FIRST YEAR

The American Academy of Pediatrics said in a policy statement released Monday that infants should sleep in the same room as their parents for the first year. The reason: to lower the risk of sleep-related deaths. The professional group advises that newborns sleep on a separate, firm surface such as a crib or bassinet, for at least the first six months of life and, ideally, the first full year. Such room-sharing lowers the risk of sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS, by as much as 50%, the academy found. The academy stresses that babies should NOT share a bed with parents or sleep on soft bedding intended for adults.
* Little known fact: The American Academy of Pediatrics is made of of single, childless people.
* And new parents think they’re not getting any sleep now.
* How do sleeping babies know if you’re in the room with them?
* Would it work if you put two mannequins in the bed and slept in another room?
* The American Academy of Pediatrics also said, if you’ve just spent $2,000 outfitting a room to be a nursery, “Sorry.”
* The American Academy of Psychologists and Psychiatrists also think this is a great idea, in fact they say baby should sleep with you up until the age of 12, which ought to do enough damage.
* No fair. I was already to unload on them – then they bring up the sleep-related deaths.
* I have a new name for that particular direction in the article: I call it “Sudden Comedy Death Syndrome.”
* Oh well, There are 7 and a half billion of us. We must be doing something right.
* I like how the Association just assumes that the parents won’t be having sex. It’s a safe bet.
