RED LOBSTER SERVES HIGHEST-CALORIE MEAL

This year’s “winner” of the “Xtreme Eating Awards” by the Center for Science in the Public Interest was Red Lobster’s “Create Your Own Combination”. A guest who chose the combination of Parrot Isle Jumbo Coconut Shrimp, Walt’s Favorite Shrimp and the Shrimp Linguine Alfredo to go along with a Caesar Salad, French fries and a Cheddar Bay Biscuit would be getting a meal of 2,710 calories. This would be equivalent to a KFC meal of eight pieces of Original Recipe, four sides of mashed potatoes with gravy, four pieces of corn on the cob and eight packets of butter spread. The CSPI’s registered dietitian, Paige Einstein, called Red Lobster’s offering a “nutritional shipwreck” which exemplifies “the kind of gargantuan restaurant meal that promotes obesity, diabetes and other diet-related diseases.” The other high-calorie meals on this year’s list included IHOP’s Chorizo Fiesta Omelette [1,990 calories], Dickey’s Barbecue Pit’s 3 Meat Plate [2,500 calories], a Sonic’s Pineapple Upside Down Master Blast [2,020 calories] and Steak ’N Shake’s 7×7 Steakburger ‘n Fries [1,570 calories].
* Well, this explains why you have to wait 45 minutes for an empty table.
* “We couldn’t finish this. Could we have some ‘To Go’ containers and a wheelbarrow?”
* Darn, now I’m hungry. Throw on some bacon and you’ve got me.
* This isn’t a nutritional shipwreck, it’s a nutritional tsunami.
* 2,710 calories? Can’t you just try a little harder and get it to an even 3,000?
* I’ve got it – the beverage! Make it a Double Chocolate Shake!
* How about if you come back and eat this meal a little bit at a time over a period of two weeks?
* This is the best publicity Red Lobster has ever had.
* Most calories on the menu? Talk about a crowded field.
* Let’s wait and see what the Texas State Fair comes up with before we declare this contest over.
* They’d take a lobster, dip it in melted chocolate, stuff Twinkies in it, and then deep fry it.
* I wonder if the Center for Science in the Public Interest follows this up the next day with a test of the nation’s leading brands of toilet paper?
