RADIO STATION SIGNAL HIJACKED

Breckenridge is a small ski town in the Rocky Mountains. Listeners of the town’s 106.3 FM The Lift radio station on Tuesday morning heard – not the very best of pop, urban, alternative, rock music and more plus weather and traffic on the tens – but unknown persons using a lot of foul language. Someone was able to take over the IP address that sends the station’s signal out, so what was heard over the air was nowhere near what the station thought it was broadcasting, and they had no way to control it as station engineers were locked out. The hack only affected the booster site in nearby Silverthorne and normal programming content was broadcast over the main transmitter. What ended up on air were the voices of a couple of men from upstate New York who run an online podcast. They claim to have no involvement in the hack. A Federal Communication Commission investigation is likely but it’s hard to track IP addresses and who actually pulled the stunt. The radio station said they are “extremely troubled and sorry for what has happened and what people have had to listen to this morning.”
* Both of you.
* Skiers had to listen to a podcast from upstate New York. This should be a federal crime.
* Imagine – an hour without hearing The Steve Miller Band or Tom Petty. The horror … the horror …
* It could have been worse. The hackers could have broadcasted not-stop polkas.
* “Boy, the DJ sure is cranky this morning!”
* I guarantee you an investigation would lead to the janitor laying his sandwich down on a button the wrong way.
* It was tragic. People in the town had to stare at the beautiful mountains for an extra millisecond to get over this.
* Seriously though, how much more suffering can Breckenridge, Colorado take?
* To put it in their terms, this is like a long line at the ski lift.
* Of course the snowboarders were pretty stoked about it and thought the whole thing was pretty rad.
* I just want to take this opportunity to thank the FCC for the excellent job they do. Wait, was that too obvious?
