PICKLE ON THE CEILING: ART
In Auckland, New Zealand, at the Michael Lett Art Gallery, Australian artist Matthew Griffin took a pickle slice off a McDonald’s hamburger and tossed it up to the ceiling, where it stuck. He called it art, and is selling it for $6,277. The piece, titled Pickle, has had a mixed reaction from social media. One said, “Oh so it’s ‘art’ when you do it but I get asked to leave the restaurant.’” Another added: “I hate pickles. I love this.” An art expert, Fine Arts Sydney director Ryan Moore, told news.com.au: “People don’t have to think it’s art if they don’t want to. Anything can be an artwork, but not everything is.”
* He’s right. (audible belch) See? That’s performance art.
* “Art experts” have to be careful when they talk about why certain things are art, or we’ll figure out it’s all a scam. (Remember the solid gold toilet?)
* I ate at McDonald’s the other day. I had no idea I was eating at the freakin’ Louvre.
* Can I get anything for all these pens and pencils I’ve tossed and stuck in the studio ceiling all these years?
* I’m more curious how he arrived at the price. I’ll bet you anything it’s the exact price of his car repair bill.
