PETA: STOP USING THE WORD “PET”
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals now wants people to stop calling their pets “pets,” calling the word derogatory. On the television program “Good Morning Britain,” Jennifer White of PETA suggested it should be switched with “more inclusive” terms like “companion” and “human carer.” She said, “When you refer to animals not as the living beings as they are but as an inanimate object, it can reflect our treatment on these animals.” She added that the word “pet” creates a “perception” of that animal being disposable.
* Quit calling them by what they are!
* So does calling them “pets” hurt our pets’ feelings? Oh, wait – THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT WE’RE SAYING. DUH!! DUUUHHHH!!!
* We feed them, clean them, give them a place to live, take them to the vet … but that’s not inclusive enough?
* PETA understands the word ‘pet’ is in their own name, right?
* How about calling them your “not-quite-as-significant other.”
