PASSENGER FINED $2600 FOR BRINGING EGG MCMUFFINS INTO AUSTRALIA

A passenger traveling from Bali, Indonesia to Australia was fined $2,664 Australian dollars ($1,800 US) after customs inspectors found two undeclared Egg and Sausage McMuffins and a ham croissant in the person’s luggage upon arriving at Darwin Airport last week. Australian authorities have instituted tough new biosecurity rules after a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in Indonesia spread to Bali, a popular destination for Australian tourists. The fast food items were detected in the passenger’s backpack by a biosecurity detector. Murray Watt, minister for agriculture, fisheries and forestry, said in a statement, “The fine is twice the cost of an airfare to Bali, but I have no sympathy for people who choose to disobey Australia’s strict biosecurity measures, and recent detections show you will be caught.”
* Thank you, character from a British war movie.
* Wait – Egg and Sausage McMuffins are spreading foot-and-mouth disease? THAT should be the big story here!
* How does that happen? People in Indonesia eat fast food with their feet?
* In Australia, they call this “fine” dining. You bring in food, you pay a fine.
* You’d think the passenger would have eaten them before landing, but then again it was McDonald’s food, so you can see why they didn’t.
