PAMPLONA BULL RUN: BULLS 0, HUMANS 6
The first “running of the bulls” in three years took place Thursday at the San Fermín festival in the Spanish city of Pamplona. The event had been canceled because of the pandemic. This year, tens of thousands of people reveled in the return of one of Europe’s most famous traditional events. Six bulls charged through Pamplona’s streets for around two-and-a-half minutes, but, well, no one was gored. Several runners were stomped, trampled or shoved to the cobblestone pavement. A animal’s horn smacked at least two men in the head, but neither were skewered. There are eight bull runs during the festival. The bulls that run each morning are killed in the afternoon by professional bullfighters. Eight people were gored during the 2019 festival, the last one held before the coronavirus pandemic.
* The bulls have been out of practice.
* It wasn’t much fun the past two years, doing it as a Zoom conference.
* Seems to me, packing all those people together on a narrow street while Covid is still going around makes things at least a little more fair to the bulls.
* Trying to avoid rampaging bulls. This could be a Squid Game competition.
