NEW TERMINOLOGY IN DATING

Here are some of the newest terms being used to describe experiences on the dating scene:
– Paperclipping describes when an ex contacts you months after ghosting you. It’s based on Clippy, the not-so-helpful Microsoft assistant who would appear after you needed help with a task but had already figured it out yourself.
– Trickle Ghosting describes when someone you’re talking to slows their communication with you to only once every few days. It’s a drawn-out, passive-aggressive approach to a breakup.
– Cloaking is when you’re stood up for a date and blocked on all communication platforms.
– Pocketing is when your significant other won’t let you meet their family. It’s a huge red flag — it means they don’t see a future with you, so they’re not going to bother introducing you to the important people in their life.
– Cookie jarring is when you keep stringing someone along to use as a backup — basically grabbing a snack when you’re hungry. You only grab for them when you when you need a quick treat.
– Ever fall head over heels for someone too fast, and need to make a quick escape? That’s You-Turning, when a red flag makes you run the other direction.
* So, basically – the dating scene – still sucky.
* We used to just put all these in the category of “Being a Jerk”.
* Wow. I had forgotten how much I hated Clippy.
* I think someone spends more time sitting around thinking up these terms than they do actually dating.
* PHONE TOPIC: What was your dating red flag? What made you run in the opposite direction?
