MARATHON RUNNER TAKES WRONG TURN, IS LOST IN WOODS FOR 12 HOURS
A Florida woman became lost during a half-marathon trail run and wandered around a 25,000-acre park for nearly 12 hours. Melissa Kitcher was in good spirits after being found Sunday evening after dark. She says she made a wrong turn more than three miles into the 13.1-mile run. Race director Thierry Rouillard says he had no idea Kitcher was still on the trail until her husband called late Sunday afternoon, hours after the Sarasota Trail Hog run finished. Deputies began searching soon after. Kitcher says her cell phone froze before the race but she never really worried since she knew her family would come looking for her. She plans to run the Sarasota Half Marathon in March and finish.
* 12 hours, and all that time with no man to nag to get him to stop and ask directions.
* Half marathons? If she can wander on foot for 12 hours I think she’s ready for a full marathon.
* The next race is in March but maybe she should start in February.
* Hey, here’s a piece of advice for that next marathon. Try FOLLOWING THE OTHER PEOPLE WHERE THEY GO. DUHHH!!!
* 12 hours and she didn’t even find her way back by accident? That’s quite an accomplishment.
* She was in good spirits when they found her except for, y’know, the humiliation part.
* For her, this thing went on longer than the presidential race.
* I’m guessing this was not her personal best.
* The good news is she earned a hiking-in-the-woods merit badge.
* So I suppose we should just assume she came in last, right?
