MAN HAD 59-FOOT TAPEWORM
A 67-year-old patient went to a hospital in Nong Khai province, Thailand, last Friday complaining of stomach pains and flatulence. A stool sample was taken, and 28 tapeworm eggs were found in the sample. The doctors gave him deworming medication. [At this point, you might want to turn down the volume on your radio.] What emerged from his rectum was a 59-foot long tapeworm. (* That’s 18 meters long for our metric friends.) Doctors believe the parasite came from raw beef that contained tapeworm eggs. The patient was given medication and was warned to change his eating habits.
* Great. I was going to make spaghetti tonight.
* The doctor goes, “Clamp. Forceps. Tape measure. Another tape measure. Another tape measure.”
* 59 feet. That’s a third of a football field. Just trying to put it in perspective.
* At least, in the end, it all came out alright.
