MAN COOKING URINE CAUSES APARTMENT BUILDING EVACUATION

An apartment building in Amherst, Massachusetts, was evacuated last Wednesday afternoon because of a tenant boiling urine. Police responded to the apartment complex after the manager received a complaint of a pungent odor. He investigated and found several unmarked glass containers containing liquids in one of the apartments. Assistant Fire Chief Lindsay Stromgren said the smell came from urine and possibly other chemicals. She said it was unclear what the man was trying to produce. He was identified, but hadn’t been criminally charged. The tenants were allowed back into their apartments after authorities determined Wednesday night that the substances weren’t explosive or a health hazard.
