MAN ARRESTED FOR NOT RETURNING VIDEO IN 2002

A Concord, North Carolina, man was arrested for failing to return a 2002 VHS rental movie, “Freddy Got Fingered.” James Meyers was driving his daughter to school when a police officer pulled him over for a tail-light that was out. The officer ran his license and approximately 25 minutes later asked him to step out of the vehicle. “The officer said, ‘I don’t know how to tell you this but there’s a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented the movie “Freddy Got Fingered” and never returned it.’ Meyers thought he was joking,” said Meyers. The cop let him take his daughter to school and go to work as long as he promised to turn himself into the police department later that day. At police headquarters, Meyers was surprised when officers put him in handcuffs. He says he vaguely remembers renting the particular movie from the family-owned video store, which has long been out of business (* thanks to viewers like him!). Meyers has an arrest warrant showing he is charged with failure to return rental property, a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $200. Comedian Tom Green, the writer and star of “Freddie Got Fingered”, has reached out to Meyers and said he would pay any fine, as long as it’s not too much.
* This kind of behavior can only lead the harder stuff, like overdue library books.
* The fine is not nearly as painful as the shame of having to admit you once watched “Freddie Got Fingered”.
* I wonder who fingered him for the crime?
* One of these is not like the others: The Godfather, Citizen Kane and Freddie Got Fingered.
* I guess we can look for a sequel now called Freddie Got Handcuffed.
