LASER BEAM DEFENSE SYSTEM NOW EXISTS
Israel has debuted a drone defense system in which a high-powered laser beam shoots down drone targets. A video demonstration of the system shows a vehicle-mounted device spotting the targets, including zigzagging drones. Once it locks onto the drone, the system keeps it in its cross hairs as the drone maneuvers in any direction. When the laser is blasted, it melts away the drone’s plastic housing and destroys its electronics, sending it to the ground. The system achieved 100 percent success in all test scenarios, according to defense technology company Rafael, who designed the system.
* Let’s just hope the incoming drones are flying above the level of our houses.
* How long ’til we can get one in a hand-held phaser?
* Can you attach the system to, say, the head of a shark?
* I think we finally have a way of dealing with the hoards of Canadian geese.
* 100 percent success in all test scenarios? So this Rafael company is not American, then.
* This is great, until the enemy starts designing attack drones made of mirrors.
