KIDS’ BIRTHDAYS: THE FIVER PARTY

Here’s a new trend in kids’ birthdays: The Fiver Party. Each guest brings $5 for the birthday boy or girl to put toward a big gift. The concept received a lot of buzz after Canadian mom-of-three Sarah Schultz wrote about them on her Nurse Loves Farmer blog last summer, since her then 6-year-old son had been invited to a couple of parties. “I was an instant fan,” Schultz says. “It beats spending $20 on a gift, and lets the birthday child get what they really want.”
* What if what they really wanted was ten dollars?
* You know what this means – now you’ve got to triple the number of invites.
* It gets worse: $5 Canadian is only $3.75 in U.S. money. Sorry, kids!
* This just confirms what we already knew – millenials are broke.
* Look at it like a cover charge for ice cream and cake.
* PHONE TOPIC: The most outrageous kids birthday party I ever saw.
