JAPAN TO CHARGE YOU $9 FOR LEAVING

Japan’s National Tax Agency has instituted the “International Tourist Tax”. Known as the “sayonara tax”, you will now be charged $9 (1,000 yen) to leave the country. Airlines and cruise lines must collect the tax from all passengers upon departure and give it to the government of Japan. On its website, the agency says the tax will “expand and enhance Japan’s tourist infrastructure in an effort to make Japan the top tourist destination.” Tokyo is scheduled to host the 2020 summer Olympics and will likely generate millions of dollars through this tax.
* It’s kind of like giving you an annoying little slap to the back of the head as you’re leaving.
* What if you go to Japan and kill yourself? Good luck collecting the 9 bucks, suckers.
* 9 dollars in Japan is, what, a pack of gum?
* When they need quick cash, they flood the cities with rats and stink bombs.
* Making people pay to leave is how Adam Sandler movies make money.
