JAPAN INTRODUCES THE VERTICAL SLEEP BOX

Two Japanese companies have unveiled a vertical “nap box.” It looks like a cocoon, or a hot water heater – tall, thin, with a front door, and interior padding that will support the occupants’ heads, knees and rear ends so that they will not fall over. The point is, you step inside, close the door, and take a nap standing up. Saeko Kawashima, communications director of furniture maker Itoki, says, “In Japan, there are a lot of people who will lock themselves up in the bathroom for a while to nap. It’s better to sleep in a comfortable location.” The plan is to install the nap boxes in offices so that workers can take short power naps throughout the day.
* And if you sleepwalk, you’re already on your feet.
* How long before they realize they forgot to add ventilation?
* You could save a ton of money and just use a refrigerator carton.
* Once they go on sale, how long ’til a bunch of office jokers seal a coworker in with duct tape? A day? Three hours?
* I’ve already got a nap box. It’s called my cubicle.
