IN PARIS, THE RESTAURANT CHEF COMES TO YOU
Paris, France, is still in COVID lockdown mode, and restaurants are still mostly closed. But some chefs have found a way to make a franc – they hire out as a private chef who will come to your home and cook. Fatiha El-Kaddaoui is a trained chef who takes bookings from private individuals. She brings her ingredients to their home and uses their equipment to prepare and serve restaurant-quality dishes. She says she is so busy she has to turn away up to 30 bookings per month. El-Kaddaoui says she operates within the rules by not catering to gatherings of more than six people, and not working after the 7:00 p.m. curfew. And, as you would expect, it’s not cheap – lunch for two comes in at 170 euros (US$205) per person.
* Thanks. Nice to hear rich people can still enjoy the good life during the lockdown.
* Just for laughs, tell Fatiha the lunch is delicious, but did she bring any ketchup?
* I can get the same thing here. I ask my neighbor’s kid to come over and cook me a hamburger, just like he does at Burger King.
* That would have to be awkward, sitting there eating while the cook is just staring at you from the kitchen.
* And who does the dishes? For $200, I’m not going near the sink.
