GUY CRASHES PICKUP TRUCK INTO EASTER ISLAND STONE HEAD
A Chilean man who lives on Easter Island, in Polynesia, crashed his pickup truck into one of the giant stone heads that are scattered around the island. He was arrested after the incident on Sunday and charged with damaging a national monument. The man claimed the brakes on his truck failed. About 1,000 of the figures, known as moai, are dotted around the island, which local people call Rapa Nui. Indigenous islanders believe the moai carry the spirits of prominent ancestors and they are seen as living incarnations of their relatives.
* But not Uncle Mort, not any more.
* So I have to ask – was he stoned? Or just smashed?
* Damaging a national monument? No sympathy for his truck?
* In his defense, you can’t swing a dead cat on Rapa Nui without hitting one of those heads, much less drive a truck.
* This would be a great location for a Hard Rock Cafe.
* How do you repair one of those things? Take it to a head shop.
