GRANDPARENTS JUST STICK YOUR KIDS IN FRONT OF A VIDEO SCREEN
Used to be, a visit with Grandma and Grandpa was a chance to get to know them – maybe they’d take you to a park or the zoo or a museum. Nowadays, the grandparents are just dumping the kids in front of a video screen. According to a new study published this week in the Journal of Children and Media, children spend half of the time at their grandparents’ house lazing around with a video device. Researchers studied youngsters ages 2 to 7 and found that during each 4 hour-visit, kids spent an average of two hours either playing games or watching videos on devices such as tablets, computers and phones. Overall, grandpa is more of a push-over than grandma, allowing kids to play with the gadgets for longer periods of time, according to the study.
* It’s good to see the old folks are up with the times.
* You don’t think Meemaw is gonna waste time hanging with the grandkids and lose valuable Pinterest time, do you?
* What did they expect? Grandkids are complaining that Grandpa doesn’t take them fishing and Grandma doesn’t bake pies from scratch?
* “Grampa, let me swipe right!”
* Don’t complain. One way or another, it’s four hours of free babysitting.
