GENERAL MILLS REFORMULATES TRIX
General Mills is dropping artificial colors and flavors from its cereals, the latest company to respond to a growing desire for food made with ingredients people see as natural. The company said Monday that Trix and Reese’s Puffs will be among the first cereals to undergo the changes. As a result, the reformulated Trix cereal later this year will be made with four colors instead of six. Kate Gallager, cereal developer for General Mills, said that while the company was able to come up with alternatives for red, orange, yellow and purple Trix pieces, it was too difficult to find natural alternatives for blue and green that achieved the right taste and color.
* Blue and green? Easy – Lysol toilet bowl cleaner and antifreeze. The colors are spot on – and so is the taste.
* We’ll have red, orange, yellow and purple, so your bowl of Trix will look like a really bad bruise.
* If your kids refuse to eat the new Trix, you can always dump in a half a bag of M & Ms.
* Sadly, now the Trix rabbit is thinking of switching to Fruity Pebbles.
* And the Lucky Charms leprechaun is thinking of skipping town before the food police come knockin’.
* Wait, without the artificial colors and flavors we won’t be able to recognize it anymore.
* It’s a growing movement: More and more people insist that their food be made out of food.
* Call them high maintenance if you want – that’s just the way they feel about it.
* I don’t see why we’re so concerned. It’s not like there’s an epidemic of cancer and other diseases, is there?
* Don’t worry, sugar fans: The company assures us that the cereal will still be about as unhealthy as ever.
