FRANCE TEMPORARILY BANS POPCORN AT THE MOVIE THEATER
Beginning today (Monday, January 3) France is banning popcorn at the movies for three weeks. Beyond cinemas, the ban also will apply to theaters, sports venues and public transportation. While movie theaters in France are open, ticket sales are down 55 percent compared to 2019. One cinema owner believes the popcorn ban may help lure back fans to smaller theaters like his, saying there are lots of people who hate hearing the sounds of popcorn in the auditoriums. “People who were watching Netflix and are saying to themselves, ‘Now there’s no more popcorn, let’s run to the cinema.’”
* Maybe it sounds more logical when you say it in French.
* To fight back, French moviegoers will now come to the movies with small, hidden bags of potato chips.
* Don’t worry, the popcorn will be back in three weeks. And it will be the same popcorn you could have bought today, but it’s just three weeks older, because they’ve got a warehouse full of stale popcorn they need to get rid of.
* In French movie theaters, you can get butter on your popcorn, or popcorn where they let the escargot slime around all over it.
