FORMER 7-ELEVEN OWNER OPENS UP 6-TWELVE ACROSS THE STREET
A disgruntled former 7-Eleven franchisee in Boston, Massachusetts, opened a competing 6-Twelve business across the street after losing his store. Abu Musa’s conflict with 7-Eleven began when he said the company forced him to offer hot food such as taquitos and hot dogs, which customers rarely bought. Every day he would throw out $300 worth of food. 7-Eleven then asked Musa to begin offering chicken wings and pizza at his store, in addition to hiring an employee to work the hot food counter at all times. He resisted, and 7-Eleven revoked his franchise. Musa then opened the 6-Twelve store across the street from his old 7-Eleven location with the intention of using his knowledge of the company to act as a direct competitor. “My goal is to get them to close,” he said. “I know the price of everything in that store so I sell the same things cheaper.”
* Good thing he never signed a non-compete clause, right Mr. Musa? RIGHT, Mr. Musa???
* Abu, please don’t give Apu on The Simpsons any ideas.
* “I know the price of everything in that store so I sell the same things cheaper.” Good plan. Then Walmart moved in.
* If he opened a 6-Twelve, there’s no end to where this might lead:
– Across from the Circle K you’d have the Semi-Circle K
– Across from AllSup’s Convenience Store you’d have SomeSup’s
– Across from the Piggly Wiggly you’d have the Soggy Hoggy
– Across from WaWa Food Market you’d just have the Wa
