FLORIDA LIBRARY SCANDAL
A couple of librarians in Sorrento, Florida, are in trouble for creating an odd scheme. The two created a fake account under the name ‘Chuck Finley’. Then they started checking out books under his name. Chuck Finley checked out 2,361 books at the East Lake County Library in a nine-month period last year. George Dore, the library’s branch supervisor, explained why he did it: He wanted to avoid having to later repurchase books purged from the shelves. Books that aren’t checked out for a long period can be discarded and removed from the library system. It appears that many of the books he was trying to save were classics, like “Cannery Row” by John Steinbeck. Dore was recommended for termination, but he says, in his defense, he was only trying to save books for potential patrons’ use, and also trying to save taxpayer money by not having to repurchase the books.
* Trying to save taxpayer money? Why do all the crazies end up in Florida?
* I say … book ‘im, Dano.
* Sounds like they started a whisper campaign against him.
* Soon to be an episode of TNT’s “The Librarians.”
* It was a pretty good scheme, except for the part about how nobody can read nine books a day for almost 300 days.
* Other than that, it was a novel idea.
* He should have gone with the “multiple personality” defense.
* Actually, as librarian scandals go, this was pretty hot.
* You can always tell when someone is too into the job.
* Isn’t “Chuck Finley” Sam’s alias on “Burn Notice”?
* What about the lost taxpayer money they paid these clowns to sit around checking out books?
