FIRST SCOTTISH TREE HUGGING COMPETITION
The inaugural Scottish Tree Hugging Championships were held last weekend. The competition was held at Ardtornish, Scotland. The contest included hugging as many trees in one minute, and also a freestyle event: coming up with the most inventive way of hugging a tree. The winner was Alasdair Firth, who lives locally on a woodland croft. The event was in association with Finland’s annual World Tree Hugging Championships.

* Oh, so it’s a “thing.”
* I guess they gotta do something in Scotland, waiting for the sheep festival.
* Only half the contestants came away with a poison oak rash this year, which was an improvement.
* I feel bad for all the shy trees who really, really didn’t want to be hugged.
* I don’t even hug people in my family tree.
* I would walk up to a pine tree and say, “I love yew,” and then give it a little pat on the ash.
