ESSAY CONTEST TO WIN A FARM
North Carolina woman is offering her $450,000 farm for $300 and a 200-word essay. Norma Burns, who has run Bluebird Hill Farm in Bennett for 18 years, said she wants to hand the property over to a couple ready for the challenges of farm life. Burns is seeking a “committed couple” to run the farm because experience has taught her that it’s too much for a single person to handle. Interested families need only submit a $300 entry fee, a resume, and a 200-word essay about why they would be ideal to run the farm. She says essays have already started pouring in and the contest isn’t over until June 1. Enter to win the farm at bluebirdhillfarmessaycontest.com.
* I bet she E-I-E-I-Owes a lot of money on it.
* 200 word essay? That’s a lot of work. Can I just tweet?
* If she doesn’t choose you, you get your $300 back, right?
* Amateur couple takes over functioning farm. This has reality TV show written all over it.
* Kind of like “We Bought A Zoo” without the exciting animals.
* So what’s the catch? Poisoned well water? Swine flu? Zombie scarecrows?
* Not bad. All she needs is 1500 applicants and she hits 450 grand.
* It’s either that or 15 million applicants. My math skills are still waking up this morning.
* Ready for the challenges of farm life? That translates into: “It really sucks.”
* Let’s just say Bluebird Hill isn’t the Bluebird of Happiness.
* Wait – bacon shortage, pork belly prices soaring – this could turn out pretty sweet.
* Now a group of farm animals wants to buy her out.
