ESCAPED INMATE HAS A BEER, TURNS SELF IN
An inmate who escaped a northwestern Arkansas jail showed up at a nearby bar a week later, ordered a beer, and declared he was turning himself in. 45-year-old Shaun Higham picked a lock and fled the Logan County Jail on June 28. He turned up Tuesday night at Mitch’s Place in the town of Paris, about 6 miles from the jail. He was wearing a dirty prison uniform and covered in insect bites. The bar’s owner called police, saying Higham was there and that he wanted to turn himself in. He was drinking a beer when police arrived. He surrendered without incident.
* It’s just like a scene out of “The Fugitive”, isn’t it?
* Once he got to Paris, it didn’t seem as romantic as he thought it was going to be.
* Seven days gone. That’s long enough for the Logan County Jail to buy better locks, you think?
* Maybe long enough for everybody to stop making fun of the warden.
* It’s rough going back to a jail when they hold a grudge.
* Higham said, “What kinda beer ya got?”, and the bartender said, “Just Budweiser.” And Higham said, “Tell the authorities to hurry it up, will ya?”
* I’ve never been in Mitch’s Place and yet I feel like I’ve drunk there before.
* Paris, Arkansas. France’s Paris is called the City of Light so this one must be the Town of Light.
* I wonder if they have to be rude there too?
* They don’t have an Eiffel Tower but the the town’s water tank is up there pretty high.
