DWI SUSPECT ON THE RUN ATTACKED BY ALLIGATOR – June 9

A Louisiana man was attacked by an alligator after fleeing Louisiana State Police troopers during a DWI stop. Victor Rivas, 40, was allegedly driving recklessly on Interstate 10 in Jefferson Parish. He had also struck a concrete barrier, causing a tire blowout. Troopers initiated a traffic stop, and observed “signs of impairment.” Mr. Rivas then ran from officers and jumped from the elevated portion of Interstate 310 into the swamp below. Troopers later spotted him walking along U.S. Highway 61, and he fled a second time into a swampy area, where he was attacked by an alligator and suffered injuries to both arms. Despite those injuries, authorities said he continued trying to evade officers before he was eventually taken into custody.
* “Halt! Raise what used to be your arms above your head!”
* This time it was the alligator that took a bite out of crime.
* They also charged him with mistreatment of wildlife.
* How do you live in Louisiana for 40 years and think you can just jump into a swamp?
* Running from the police. It can come back and bite you.
