DIVER SHOOTS SELF IN THE HEAD WITH A SPEAR GUN

A South African man shot himself through the head with a spear gun while scuba diving. Connie Hallowell, a pastor by profession, was diving near Scottburgh Beach, south of Durban, when the accident happened last Saturday. Hallowell said he was reaching for the gun when a wave came and the trigger went off. He screamed for people to help him while he walked back towards the shore. The spear entered through the right side of his jaw, and came out the other side underneath his left eye. Hallowell miraculously avoided being seriously injured in the accident. There was just a minor bone fracture, with the spear narrowly missing his brain and eyes. While waiting for emergency responders, he received help on the beach from locals, with one Good Samaritan shortening the four-foot metal projectile with an angle grinder.

* He’s lucky it wasn’t one of those semi-automatic fishing spear guns.
* Maybe switch from a spear gun to something blunter? Like a hammer?
