DAD SHOPLIFTS DURING "SHOP WITH A TROOPER" NIGHT

Kentucky State Police have an annual program where children can go shopping with a policeman. It’s called the Shop with a Trooper program. It’s a chance for officers to interact with kids who probably have seen law enforcement in a negative light and it’s an opportunity for the kids to realize that cops are ordinary people. But in Morehead, Kentucky, while one boy was shopping at a local Walmart with a cop, his father was shoplifting a power drill. Walmart’s loss prevention team caught him with the merchandise as he was leaving. The move landed the man in jail. Police were amazed that the man did this in front of the children and multiple state police.
* Well, it is outrageous and unbelieva – wait, did you say Kentucky?
* I love the thinking of these guys: “With all these cops around, they’ll never suspect I’d be stupid enough steal something.”
* Now the dad’s gonna get power-drilled by his cellmate.
* First, let’s just come right out and say it: It’s a stupid program.
* Shop with a Trooper? I can just picture the earnest little bureaucrat who dreamed that up.
* The hard part is getting the troopers to stop lingering in the pastry section.
* “Look, kid, just get everybody on your list donuts! Who doesn’t love donuts?”
* Hey, we’re all too busy this time of year for this make-believe crap.
* And you know they wanted to call it Shop with a Cop but someone thought that was too flippant.
* So this was really a diversion program. The kid was the diversion while the dad stole everything he could.
