CREMATORIUM FILTERS OUT PRECIOUS METALS FROM ASHES
Switzerland’s largest crematorium – the Nordheim cremation facility in Zurich – has put in place technology to filter precious metals from the 6,000 or so bodies that are cremated in its facility each year. The family of the deceased has to opt in for the filtering, and about a third of them do. From the ashes comes gold, silver and platinum, which the crematorium then sells to recycling firms for profit.
* You really can’t take it with you, can you?
* Well, it’s a step up from those stories about funeral homes stealing tooth fillings.
* About a third of families allow the filtering, and those are the only bodies they do it to. Promise.
* They also sell the funeral outfits to thrift stores, but that’s on the down-low.
* That sorting “machine” is really just a guy with a flour sifter.
