COUPLE CAUGHT SMUGGLING SARDINIA BEACH SAND
A French couple was caught trying to take home 90 pounds of sand from an Italian beach. Police caught the pair with 14 plastic soda bottles packed with white sand from the beach in Chia, located in southern Sardinia. The bottles were reportedly found in their trunk as they were about to board a ferry in Porto Torres leaving for France. The couple claimed the sand was just a souvenir. Sardinia’s colorful sands are protected from plundering tourists by law in an effort to preserve the island’s picturesque environment. Offenders face fines over $3,000. While all this sounds a bit silly, know that over the last 10 years, authorities have seized nearly 10 tons of sand taken from the Mediterranean island.
* Did they seize the sand? Yeah, they sees it by the ocean.
* Ten whole tons? Are you shore?
* That calls for some HEAVY fines.
* When the couple was caught, they graveled. I mean groveled.
* Whenthey asked to be let go, officials told them to pound sand.
* Why would you steal sand? For your ant farm?
* If you’re going to smuggle sand, better to do it the old-fashioned way – in your bathing trunks.
