COP PAYS FOR DINNER FOR RUDE COUPLE
A Pennsylvania police officer picked up the tab for a couple that refused to sit next to him and his fellow officers at a local diner. Officer Chuck Thomas of the Homestead, PA, Police Department said that he and three other officers sat down for dinner at the Eat n’ Park restaurant last Friday, the day after a shooter in Dallas killed five police officers and injured 11 other people. Thomas heard a man say, “I don’t want to sit there.” He looked over and saw a man and a woman. “I looked over at him and said, ‘You don’t have to worry about it. We won’t hurt you,'” Thomas said. “He said, ‘No, I’m good. I don’t want to sit there.'” So they moved to the other side of the restaurant, away from the police officers. Thomas said, “We get stuff like this all the time, and you brush it off,” but he felt like reaching out after what happened in Dallas. He wanted to leave the two a note but was unsure how to go about doing so and then decided to pick up their check and scribble a message on the receipt. He wrote, “Sir, your dinner was paid for by the police officer you didn’t want to sit next to” and thanked them for their support. He also left a $10 tip. No word on the race of the customers – Officer Thomas is black.
* So the couple ended up eating crow.
* Dessert was Humble Pie.
* On the bright side, the officers didn’t LITERALLY rub their noses in their meal.
* If I were that guy, Id make sure all my taillights were working for the next, oh, decade.
* Hey, it’s the “Eat n’ Park,” not the “Eat And Solve America’s Police And Civilian Relations In Thirty Minutes.”
* I feel intense guilt right now just reading this story. And I don’t know why.
* Mainly I’m thinking, “It’s not very smart to be that rude. You could pay big.”
* Or you could have cops buy you every meal for the rest of your life.
* It’s a nice heartwarming story – or it would be if things weren’t so crazy right now.
