COMPANY FINED FOR NOT PAYING FOR BATHROOM BREAKS

A Pennsylvania company that publishes business newsletters will pay about $1.75 million to thousands of employees who had to clock out while going on bathroom breaks. The company, American Future Systems Inc., had argued that it wasn’t required to pay employees for short breaks. The company had been violating the federal Fair Labor Standards Act because employees weren’t even earning minimum wage when the company required them to clock out for breaks. The judge ordered back pay and damages to 6,000 employees at offices in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Ohio between 2009 and 2013.
* The company called the fine “a load of crap.”
* Now they want to go back and charge the employees for all the toilet paper they used.
* American Future Systems Inc. – so modern sounding and yet so archaic.
* This kind of behavior would really hurt the good image of corporations, if they had one.
* Not even minimum wage? Where do they think they are? China?
* Gotta get those business newsletters out! People are waitin’ to read ’em!
* This wasn’t Scranton, Pennsylvania by any chance?
* Sorry, I thought we had a real life version of “The Office” here.
* If it was “The Office”, Dwight would just wear an adult diaper so he could go on working.
* American Future Systems Inc. – so modern sounding and yet so archaic.
* They settle for the 1.75 million now? Darn, that could have been one hell of a holiday office party.
* PHONE TOPIC: “My company is so cheap …”
