CLOTHES THAT SMELL BETTER THE MORE YOU SWEAT
A team of engineers from the University of Minho in Portugal have developed a technique to modify cotton fabric so that it lets off a citronella aroma when it comes in contact with sweat, emitting a “quick burst of scent.” The engineers’ report looks to a future where “functional textiles incorporating fragrances could be an effective clothing deodorizing product.” As a bonus, they note, citronella is also a popular insect repellent.
* So if you get caught in a swarm of killer bees, you’re supposed to do some jumping jacks?
* Oh, jeeze, just take a shower, for cryin’ out loud.
* Maybe they could give free shirts to the people in the sweatshops making the shirts?
* This idea simultaneously stinks, and doesn’t stink.
