CHEERIOS SALES RISE WHEN SOLD AS "GLUTEN FREE"
Breakfast cereal sales have been dropping in recent years. General Mills Inc. said last week its total cereal sales in the U.S. declined 5 percent in the latest quarter. But, the company says, Cheerios sales rose 3 percent after it began labeling the boxes as “Gluten Free” and promoted the change in September. Since Cheerios, as well as Chex and Lucky Charms, don’t contain wheat, General Mills didn’t have to reformulate the cereals to label them as gluten-free.
* Cereal sales are down the same quarter McDonald’s launched all-day breakfast. Interesting.
* Hey, McDonald’s Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit can give you something no bowl of cereal can give you – 450 calories, 26 grams of fat, and 52% of your daily requirement of salt.
* The gluten-free thing seems like a scam – ’til you look into what they’ve done to wheat over the years.
* They’ve turned wheat into a whole new plant. It had more work done than Joan Rivers.
* Another big scam is labeling something “Heart Healthy.” You should be so lucky.
* The idea is you take your industrial waste food product, add a vitamin at some point and then label it as a health food.
* Then there’s the latest trend: “Organic.” That means it was grown using organic methods free of all pesticides. Or at least they hope that’s what you believe.
