BLINK AT YOUR CAT

Animal behaviorists have revealed what most cat owners already know: the most effective way to make your cat like you is by blinking at it slowly. When a cat looks at you, narrows its eyes and shuts them for a few moments, it’s telling you, “Hey, we’re cool.” But of course, there was research grant money to be had, so researchers at the University of Sussex and the University of Portsmouth worked together to produce the study on cat blinking. They found that if you narrow your eyes at them, followed by closing your eyes for a couple of seconds, they’ll respond in the same way themselves. It shows that they are feeling relaxed and non-threatened. By contrast, a stare-down is often considered a threat in the animal world. The study also found that cats tend not to initiate the slow blink at their owner; rather, they wait for a human to do it first. They also discovered that cats were more willing to approach a human’s outstretched hand if you use the slow-blink to greet it.
* And while your eyes are closed it’ll spray urine on your hand.
* The first humans to notice cats reacted to droopy eyes and slow-motion blinks were stoners.
* It took two universities to discover this remarkable finding. And here they just gave the Nobel prize to someone else.
* The next research project is “How To Get Litter Box Odor Out Of A Laboratory.”
* Who didn’t know this? I walk around squinting so much, my (wife/husband) made me go see an ophthalmologist.
