BEEKEEPERS PROTEST, BRING BEES

Four beekeepers protested in front of Chile’s presidential palace in Santiago on Monday. Honey production has been hurt by a long-term drought in Chile, and climate change is at least partly to blame, scientists say. The beekeepers want government reform to improve honey prices or to provide subsidies to honey producers. At their protest, the beekeepers brought around 60 beehives, which contained an estimated 10,000 bees, and set them in front of the presidential palace. Said one of the beekeepers, Jose Iturra, “There would be no life if the bees die. That’s what we wanted to highlight with this demonstration.” Seven police officers were stung trying to arrest the beekeepers and move the beehives out of the street.
* Then the murder hornets attacked.
* I bet it was hard getting those plastic police cuffs around all those little bee legs.
* Wait’ll the Tarantula Keepers protest next week. That’ll be something to watch.
* Anyway, that’s the latest buzz from South America.
