AUTHOR KILLED PEOPLE, USED DETAILS IN HIS BOOKS
A Chinese crime writer who allegedly used murders he committed as inspiration for his novels was sentenced to death Monday. Liu Yongbiao, 53, and an accomplice named Wang were staying at a hostel when they tried to rob a man named Mr. Yu, and beat him to death when he fought back. They then killed the couple who ran the guesthouse and their 13-year-old grandson to cover up the crime. This was in November 1995. The slayings stumped authorities for 22 years. Police were able to finally make a break in the case last year after using DNA evidence from a cigarette at the crime scene. When police came to arrest him in August 2017, Liu told officers, “I’ve been waiting for you all this time.” After the killings, Liu wrote a couple of books. In the introduction to his novel “The Guilty Secret,” Liu revealed that he had already started a follow-up book about a female author who evades capture despite committing grisly murders and that he planned to call it “The Beautiful Writer Who Killed.”
* His next novel was going to be called “I Did It”, and the one after that, “Hey, Police, Over Here”.
* Write what you know, they say.
* You wouldn’t want to be around this guy when he got writer’s block.
* I wonder what they’d find in James Patterson’s basement?
* Cigarettes. One way or another, they’ll kill you.
