AUDIO: WORKER SUSPENDED FOR USING ROBOT VOICE

A New York City Health Department help line worker faces a 30-day suspension for greeting callers as a robot. Employee Ronald Dillon had previously been disciplined for talking like a robot, in addition to other infractions. A city administrative judge ruled in a Sept. 15 decision that Ronald Dillon should be suspended without pay for 30 days. The judge also found that he neglected customer-service assignments, ignored his supervisor’s requests and purposely misdirected calls on several occasions.
* Also, in the lunchroom, he would always DO the Robot.
* You can imagine how annoying THAT became after the first couple weeks.
* Then he told the judge his ruling “did not compute.”
* At least he’s still in character. He said he’ll use the 30 days to get his bearings oiled.
* What’s wrong with bringing a little creativity to the job?
* Don’t knock it. It’s a great way to deal with telemarketers.
* If this keeps up, they really are going to replace him with a robot.
* In addition, he purposely misdirected calls and the governor of New York did not appreciate it.
* He promises that when he returns to work, he’ll stop talking like a robot, and instead, answer the phone as Yoda.
* “This Mr. Dillon is. How help you can I?”
CLIP: Ronald Dillon answers the phone like a robot, then speaks normally.
