Children at a Melbourne, Australia, childcare center won’t be getting a visit from Santa Claus this year. The Kensington Community Children’s Co-operative has canceled the Christmas Party, and scrapped a visit from Santa. Instead, they’re holding a ‘Celebration Picnic’ (it’s summer in the Southern Hemisphere), and the guest of honor will be a ‘Sustainability Pirate’ to entertain the kiddos. The invitation read: “This year’s party will be a get-together picnic and fresh food swap to celebrate the end of year. Sustainability Pirate will be attending and we will have a Nature Treasure Hunt.” The childcare center has said the change is to ensure that the event is inclusive for everyone.
