AUDIO: TOWN TO BREAK COWBELL RECORD
The town of Royal Oak, Michigan, wants more cowbell. The town is going to try and break the Guinness World Records mark for the most people to ring a cowbell at once. The attempt is August 1 during the Cowbell Classic 10K run. Matt Flynn, race director for Ultimate Fun Runs, says they’re ordering 3,000 cowbells to be rung for five consecutive minutes. He says: “It’s probably more difficult that you think because that’s a long time to listen to cowbells.” The area was home to a 19th Century cowbell-making business.
* Oh, well okay, then. That last part makes it not a stupid waste of human energy.
* I didn’t think it was possible for an entire town to need to get a life, but son of a gun, Royal Oak, Michigan has gone and done it.
* I feel sorry for the Guinness judge who has to listen to the whole five minutes to confirm it.
* “We’ve thought it over and decided to just take your word for it.”
* Could be worse. Could be 3,000 accordions.
* It’s like a Will Ferrell/Christopher Walken SNL bit.
* Greatest cowbell song ever? The phone lines are open.
* There’s “Dance the Night Away” by Van Halen. That one was just in the movie “Argo.”
* You want old school? How about “We’re an American Band” by Grand Funk Railroad?
* I want to know one thing: do the cows get royalties?
