The Las Vegas Review-Journal has compiled a list of some of The Worst Homeowners Association Rules Ever, pulled from various HOA’s around the country:
– Pet weight restrictions.
– Plant restrictions, such as not even being able to install native plants.
– Demanding garage doors be left open weekdays from 8 am to 4 pm, to prove there aren’t people living in your garage.
– Trash can time limits – they must be off the street by noon, even though you’re at work.
– No weekend home improvements.
– Requiring the perfect shade of paint.
– Street parking restrictions where guests can’t park their cars on the street.
– No nonmatching shingles allowed.
– No posting of signs, including “For Sale” signs if you’re selling your house.
– Lawns must be consistently green.
– No blue trampoline covers.
– Restricting the color of the front door.
– Requiring expensive matching mailboxes.
– Restrictions on how you park in your own driveway.
– No car washing.
– No open window blinds.
