AUDIO: THE WORLD’S WORST TOY

Bunchems is a toy which was introduced in February by Toronto-based company Spin Master. Bunchems are small, plastic balls that hook together to build anything you want. They look like little half-inch sea urchins, and work like little balls of Velcro. No one is complaining they don’t work. The complaints are that they work too well, especially when stuck your kid’s hair. The little hooks that make Bunchems cling to one another also make them nearly impossible to remove once they get tangled in hair. The problem has become so common that the company’s website has a video on how to remove them, which is to use a lot of hair conditioner, although some parents who find the conditioner doesn’t work suggest using WD-40 oil.
* You may remember Bunchems by their previous name: Bag o’ Cactus.
* Where can I get a bag of these before Thanksgiving? I hate my sister’s kids.
* I guess the idea is that the kid can use these to build a real toy.
* Recommended for kids with crewcuts.
* Just so we’re clear here: I’d avoid putting WD-40 oil on a kid’s head. It can’t be good for them.
* I see why their company is called Spin Master. Their PR people are spinning like mad over this.
* PHONE TOPIC: Did you ever get the world’s worst toy? What was it?
* CLIP: A bit of the Bunchems TV commercial.
