AUDIO: PRESCHOOL FOR ADULTS

In New York, you can now attend something called “adult preschool.” Based in Brooklyn, Preschool Mastermind is a one-month long program that purports to help grown-ups over the age of 18 “re-learn the basics and experience the magic of life as it was originally intended.” For between $333 and $999, participants can expect to spend time in class playing games, doing arts and crafts, participating in show-and-tell sessions, going on field trips and completing playsheets, among other activities. Course founder Michelle Joni Lapidos, 30, indicates on her website that “grownup boys and girls” are welcome in the program, and that she is looking for “bright-minded” students who are “intent on making play more part of their life.” Preschool Mastermind has a limit of 10 students per class. Some of the things you will be doing in Adult Preschool:
– arts and crafts with Play-Doh, glitter glue and finger paint
– show and tell
– snack time
– games, like musical chairs
– buddy system
– make believe
– a field trip
– class picture day
– nap time
* I’m crawling into a fetal position just hearing about this.
* Imagine telling your spouse that this is what you’d like to do this summer.
* Excuse me, some of us are busy trying to survive right now.
* Those who can, do. Those who can’t do, teach. Those who can’t teach, teach adult preschool.
* Anybody who shells out money for this should be made to sit in the corner wearing a dunce cap.
* “The magic of life as it was originally intended”? I thought life was a merciless dog-eat-dog kill-or-be-killed food chain?
* Preschool Mastermind? They don’t even realize how silly that sounds.
* Actually, it sounds like a singles bar without the drinks.
* How can they teach all this in just a month?
* One thing’s for sure: If you flunk out of this, you really do have problems.
