AUDIO: FLYBOARDER FAILS CROSSING ENGLISH CHANNEL
Franky Zapata, the man who invented the cool flyboard that enabled him to surf through the air during France’s Bastille Day parade, failed in his attempt to fly the board across the English Channel. Zapata made it 11 miles before falling into the water after stopping to refuel. Zapata’s bid to cross the approximately 22 mile stretch of water on a hoverboard was meant to coincide with the 110th anniversary of the first-ever flight across the English Channel in an airplane. The former jet ski champion was not injured. Zapata predicted before the attempt that he had a 30 percent chance of making the 20-minute flight across to England. He is expected to try it again soon.
* Gee, and Marty McFly made it look so easy.
* I think he failed on purpose, just to cool off from that European heat wave.
* He was hoping to make a splash, but not like this.
* Today’s daredevils have the right idea. Take 20 minutes to make history, and you still have time to meet someone for lunch.
* Forget the English channel. Netflix streaming is the way to go these days.
CLIP: A splash sound effect.
