AUDIO: FAST FOOD RESTAURANT STORED BURGER BUNS IN THE BATHROOM
Customers at a Checkers hamburger restaurant in Cleveland, Tennessee, found hundreds of burger buns stacked high, just feet away from a public toilet. One customer, Stephen Staley, took a picture and recorded video evidence of the buns to alert consumers. The video shows several racks of hamburger buns right next to the toilet in the men’s bathroom. Staley, who manages a nearby McDonald’s, says he was appalled by the apparent lack of regard for food safety standards. (*Plus – it doesn’t hurt to give your nearest competing fast-food joint a big black eye.) He told the manager about the buns after taking pictures and stayed at the restaurant until employees moved the bread – more than an hour after his complaint. He then he called the Health Department’s emergency tip-line for help. Inspectors called to the scene found the buns in the dumpster. Checkers has since apologized for the apparent food safety violation and spokeswoman Kim Francis released the following statement: “The health and safety of our guests is our top priority and a bread delivery mistakenly left in the bathroom is completely unacceptable. The buns were misplaced during a delivery at the franchise-operated Checkers location in Cleveland, Tennessee, on Saturday, April 23,2016, and when discovered, they were immediately disposed of by the restaurant team. The buns were never served, and the employees involved in the delivery have been disciplined.”
* Checkers needs more checkers.
* Imagine working at McDonald’s and going to Checkers for a meal.
* Definitely not the kind of buns you want in a bathroom.
* Ahh, the old “This only happened once, and we just found out about it” excuse.
* Meanwhile, what do you bet they’d been doing it for years?
* They could use the druggie defense: “We were just experimenting with storing the buns there.”
* Or the Paris Hilton defense: “Those are not our buns.”
* I like how it says “the apparent food safety violation.” You mean there’s some doubt?
