AUDIO: COSMETIC SURGERY: THE FIVE MINUTE NOSE JOB

Scientists think they have developed a new technique for nose jobs. A team from Occidental College in California discovered that passing current through cartilage, like that in the nose, made it more malleable. Once the tissue is floppy, you can mold it into a new shape. A mold is used before the electrical current – which is passed through tiny needles – is turned off, to allow the cartilage to harden in its new shape. The process, which would take about five minutes, could revolutionize cosmetic surgery. The technique was tested on a rabbit whose ears normally stood upright. The researchers were able to make one of the ears bend over without damage.
* How’d they discover that? “Hey, let’s run some electricity through a rabbit and see what happens.”
* It’s a little late but hey – great news for Prince Charles!
* Zapping your nose into Silly Putty. What could go wrong?
* The only real side effect is everything smells like fried boogers for a week.
* If they wanted to run electricity through my nose, they’d need to harness a hydroelectric dam.
