AUDIO: COACH THREW GAME AT LITTLE LEAGUE SOFTBALL WORLD SERIES

At the girls’ Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon, a team from Snohomish, Washington, threw a game against a team from North Carolina on Monday, losing on purpose to force a three-way tie that would eliminate a powerhouse team from Iowa, which Washington wanted to avoid playing in a potential rematch in the championship game. The Washington coach benched their four best players, had players bunt with two strikes, and told them to swing at balls in the dirt. But the Washington coach’s plan was foiled after the Iowa team appealed to Little League International and it was ruled their team would play the Washington team in a playoff on Tuesday.
* Another clue was that the team members were dressed up for a sack race.
* The coach also tried to deflate the baseballs.
* Teaching the kids to do whatever it takes to gain an advantage? At least they’ll be ready for the corporate world.
* Tell me: Do they get a participation trophy for throwing a game too?
* You can understand how this would happen. I mean it is the girls softball Little League World Series. There are billions of dollars involved here.
* That’s one thing I can say about my Little League teams: Nobody told us we had to lose. We did that on our own.
* Hey if I want to watch Little League softball I just check out a Philadelphia Phillies game.
CLIP: From “The Bad News Bears”, Walter Matthau yells at his team.
