AUDIO: AMERICA’S SMILIEST CITIES
Using Microsoft’s facial recognition app, an air purification company called HouseFresh scanned and analyzed a bunch of Instagram selfies and measured peoples’ smiles to judge their happiness. Here’s where people in America smile the most:
– Selfies from Utah were determined to be the happiest with a 74.5 (out of 100) score. Over 70 percent of photos analyzed from Utah had a “cheery grin.”
– The other smiliest states were Colorado, Wyoming, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Vermont, Nebraska, Iowa – all with ratings over 70%.
– 75% of the residents in Concord, California, were grinning in their selfies, making it America’s smiliest city. Although the rest of the state of California averaged out with a 38% smile rating, the lowest in the country.
– Other least-smiling states were Indiana, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Louisiana and New Jersey, all with ratings under 50%.
* It says “smiliest”, right? Not “smelliest”?
* Wait – these are SELFIES. Smiling is just one option. Then you’ve got the “Duck Face,” the “Fish Gape,” the “Kissy Face,” the “Model Pout,” the “Nose Scrunch,” and the slightly angry “Attitude Face” that rappers do in photos.
* Good to see America’s STEM education programs paying off in scientific achievements like these polls.
* Next, orthodontists will use this database to target customers for teeth-straightening.
* Why do these companies commission these weird surveys? Tomorrow, we’ll have the results of a steel fabrication company’s survey on the most popular shoe colors.
