AMERICAN AIRLINES SHRINKS SEAT SPACE
American Airlines is decreasing the front-to-back space between some of its economy class seats by another two inches, from 31 inches to 29 inches on three rows of the airplane, and down to 30-inches in the rest of its main economy cabin. American isn’t the only big airline heading in this direction. United Airlines is considering a similar move. American will become the first large U.S. carrier to offer legroom with a pitch that’s nearly on par with ultra-low cost carriers Spirit Airlines and Frontier Airlines. Those seats are an industry minimum 28-inches apart.
* Less room to fight back.
* I wish they’d just put the arm and leg restraints on the seats and be done with it.
* If you’re planning on flying this summer, start dieting right this instant.
* Don’t worry. If you can’t fit in the new seat space, the airlines will shove you ’til you’re in.
* The idea is to give passengers who are being dragged down the aisle more headroom.
* I like how there’s no pretense that the airlines love us anymore. It just feels less phony.
* Instead of, “I hope you enjoyed your flight. Have a nice day” now it’s “Get the hell off the plane!”
